One day when Jesus was teaching on the banks of Lake Gennesaret (Gennesaret
Gennesaret (ghen-na-sa-ret), the crowds swarmed him so much that He climbed into Simon’s boat to continue teaching. We read in Luke 5:4, The Message, that when Jesus finished teaching, he said to Simon:
“Push out into deep water and let your nets out for a catch.”
Simon said in Luke 5:5, The Message:
“Master, we’ve been fishing hard all night and haven’t caught even a minnow. But if you say so, I’ll let out the nets.”
Simon had to call for help from other fisherman because a huge catch of fish flooded into the net, a miracle that Jesus performed. But notice that He used Simon, his boat, his friends, and his nets to capture the miracle. God has definitely chosen you and me to be used as instruments on earth to pour His power through, preparing us to know how to catch His miracles and how to teach other to catch their miracles.
Simon said, “Master, we have toiled all the night and have accomplished nothing.” These were experienced, smart, strong fishermen who understood the work they had to do. They had been working at it all night without giving up. They were strong, industrious, and persistent men. But they hadn’t caught anything.
Was there a deficiency of fish in the sea? No, for when Jesus told Simon to let the nets down, fish swam from every direction to get into the net. Why did this happen? Jesus was demonstrating that with Him, we can do all things. His presence guarantees success, especially when we will work with Him doing what we know we should do.
What if Simon’s boat had not been maintained and it was leaky and smelly. What if it was filled with junk and baggage and old nets that didn’t work anymore? Do you think that perhaps Jesus would not have performed this miracle in the same manner at that particular time?
Jesus wants to do miracles in your family and your friends—after He does some miracles in you. Are you ready for some miracles?
Here is a prayer for you to pray today:
Lord, I want you to come into my life, my home, my job, my boat, everything I have! I am tired of “fishing all night” and catching nothing. I want results, I want to be effective, and I want to help change lives. I understand that first you need to help me change my life. I now choose to empty the old dead fish, the bones, the raggedy nets, and everything ineffective out of my soul.
I bind my will to your will, Father, because I want my will totally obligated to yours. You truly do know best and you truly do know how I’ll best be blessed! I bind my mind to your mind, Jesus, because I want to think like you do. I want to have your help when situations leap up into my face this day. I want to know that I will be able to think inspired thoughts because your mind is in me. I bind my raggedy, torn emotions to your healing, comforting, balanced power and love, Holy Spirit. I don’t want any emotional reactions or emotional surprises anymore!
I cannot do this with any semblance of grace and love and power without your help. Thank you for the Keys of the Kingdom that Matthew 16:19 tells me that you left for me. Whatever I bind on earth will be bound in heaven. Actually, whatever is bound to your already-declared will in heaven will be manifested right here on earth when I come into agreement with it by binding my will to yours! How exciting is that?
I loose, smash, crush, and destroy all wrong beliefs and wrong ideas that my soul has been hanging on to. I loose all of the effects and influences of any wrong agreements I have had any part in or that others have agreed about me. I loose the works of the enemy from every area of my life. First John 3:8 says that Jesus came to this earth to destroy the works of the enemy. The Word also says that I am supposed to do what Jesus did. So, Hallelujah!
Thank you, Lord, as I go out this day and tomorrow and the day after, prayed up, in agreement with you, and ready to be your words of love, your hands, and your feet. I’m so honored to be working with you. Amen.
